Sports saved my life...

May 2013 has arrived, summer was coming up and I told myself to start going back to the gym. Not to loose twenty pounds that I gained but to be able to walk around my neighborhood easily as I used to do. Six months had passed since my heart surgery so how much more I had to wait to get started.

In September 2012, I was not able to paint. I was in a need to sleep more hours than my working hours. I was not able to wake up early. If I walk to the supermarket, I would press my hand over my chest and my eyes would get blurry. I thought I was out of shape and need to start exercising. I had to break my childhood fear of doing sports. As an adult I should take my responsibilities for my self by going to a supervised sports center. So that I would not faint as I did in the past. One of my friends had a personal trainer at that time called Tony Hill. She was looking good and strong that I thought of trying out her choice. I took an appointment with her personal trainer.

He was a big, strong, superhero kind of looking man with lots of huge muscles and a big smile. He asked my problem. I told him that I needed to work out. He gave me several exercises to test me. I passed the test that I started to work out with him for two months. I lost weight, gained muscles, became strong but was still not feeling good. One day while we were exercising that bad feeling came over me so I pushed the emergency button. Tony ran over for help and checked my pulse. He got surprised that he asked me to see an expert.

That day Tony saved my life. Because of him, we found out about my heart problem since birth. Six months after that incident, all I wanted was to go back to his gym. Even if my heart surgery went successful some symptoms were still there that I could only trust him. My heart rate was irregular. There was a leakage at one of my heart valves. I said to myself that only thing that could change those symptoms for good would be exercising. Everyone refused my eagerness to do sports but I ignored them. I went to see Tony and he welcomed me with tears in his eyes.

He looked at me and did not allow me to start exercising right away. He explained me that I needed to clean my body from all the medicines, steroids, and narcosis given me during the surgery. So I needed to start a good detox program with Karen Hill. Karen gave me a great detox with a healthy eating program, which helped me to loose my extra pounds and gain back my energy. I got cleaned from inside out. They motivated me with their spiritual advices and lifetime stories. After detox, I was only allowed to start exercising with Tony.

For six months Tony worked out with me patiently. In our first day, he asked me to give him 10 squats. I was able to give him 3 sets of 50 before, but on that day I hardly did three. After the second one, my eyes got blurry and they brought me a bucket to throw up. He started to check and wrote down my pulse through our exercises. My heart rate would rise very quickly and hardly drop in fifteen minutes. At the end of six months, my heart rate started to rise slowly and drop down in ten seconds like every other healthy person. After those good results, I gave him a sweet farewell. I started to exercise on my own. I started boxing twice a week at a studio near my house. As a healthy life choice, I decided to keep exercising.

After two years of my surgery, I went to my cardiologist for a check-up. I was able to stay longer on the effort test longer than a year before. On my last visit, he had told me that I might not be able to continue painting as I used to because of the leakage at my heart valve. However, he congratulated me on my second visit and asked me to continue with everything that I do. My eagerness and faith saved my life. Sports never give quick solutions but always long lasting results. Everyday I am thankful that I am healthy and able to go to the gym. From now on I can run without fainting. This was my childhood dream. I achieved it today. Now I am grateful knowing that it is my biggest wealth.
